Sweat Sensors - Sensors in Medicine 2022

TITLE: Sweat Lactic Acid Sensing - From Idea to Minimally Viable Product

 

ABSTRACT: ZP is a contract developer and manufacturer of biosensors which are applied into many industries and applications including sports and athletic performance. The analytes that are receiving the most attention at this moment are :

1) Lactate, suitable for monitoring anaerobic respiration.

2) Glucose, suitable to understand the fuel in the body.

3) Hydration, understand the ratio of water to electrolytes.

4) Cortisol, understand the stress on the athlete.

5) Testosterone, understand the hormonal state of the athlete,

 

 

In this talk ZP presents a case study where we use a lactate sensor to monitor the lactate levels of a sports person as they progress through aerobic to anaerobic exertion and use this to illustrate the philosophy at ZP to go from idea to real world data without the expected months and sometimes years of lab testing with synthetic samples.

Dr Martin Peacock is an industrial bioelectrochemist with over twenty years of biosensor experience, having had industrial roles from Abbott Diabetes to GSK, and solving technical challenges from continuous glucose monitoring to RNA analysis.  In recent years Martin has set-up biosensor focused companies across the globe from Silicon Valley California to Oslo Norway.
